MONUSCO reaffirms its commitment to support the Ceasefire Monitoring and Verification Mechanism

Kinshasa, 3 February 2026: The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democtatic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) welcomes progress announced by the State of Qatar in Doha-facilitated talks between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the AFC/M23, including agreement on detailed Terms of Reference to operationalize the ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism established under the ceasefire framework.

MONUSCO took over from an earlier UN peacekeeping operation – the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) – on 1 July 2010. It was done in accordance with Security Council resolution 1925 of 28 May to reflect the new phase.
