By strengthening these local capacities, MONUSCO is helping to prepare for a smooth transition to governance that is fully assumed by local actors.

Beni: MONUSCO builds a building for civil society

Civil society in the territory of Beni, in North Kivu, will soon have a functional building to meet, deliberate and work in better conditions. Construction work began on Tuesday, August 5 in Oicha, the territorial capital, by MONUSCO's Civil Affairs Section.

Prison officers were decorated in Kinshasa for their commitment to a more humane prison system in the DRC. "This medal is not just a tribute. Think of it as recognition, as renewed commitment", said MONUSCO chief Bintou keita.

The BiEster Foundation, which has been involved for several years in psychosocial support, economic empowerment and the promotion of women's rights in conflict zones, relies on concrete strategies to raise women's awareness and encourage their active participation in peace processes.

On July 31, 2025, International African Women's Day, the BiEster Foundation, in collaboration with MONUSCO's gender section, organized a capacity-building workshop for about thirty women from various local organizations.

Four FDLR ex-combatants have been repatriated. Among them, Dukuze Obedi, a former member of the FDLR-FOCA, calls on his former companions to lay down their arms and join the national disarmament program to rebuild their lives in peace.

Today, thanks to this initiative carried by Radio Okapi with MONUSCO support, aid takes another form, that of a voice, knowledge, a lesson. Because a child who learns is a child who hopes.

Five hundrer students from the Higher Institute of Commerce in Beni (North-Kivu) have been participating since Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in an awareness campaign on positive masculinity and the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).

The role of prison officers deployed by MONUSCO is often discreet, but fundamental. Supporting the national prison administration, they work every day to humanize detention, reinforce security and promote human rights.

Twenty-two officers from MONUSCO's Correctional Administration Support Unit, including thirteen women, were decorated during a ceremony held on July 31, 2025, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
