Kisangani, 19 July 2013 – The MONUSCO Force Commander, General Carlos Alberto dos Santos since Cruz, visited MONUSCO sector 2 troops in Kisangani on 17 July 2013. The visit, his first here since officially assuming that function, was one of reconnaissance and making contact with the MONUSCO troops deployed in Kisangani.

At the UN mission's Kisangani headquarters, General dos Santos Cruz, accompanied by his close collaborators, was greeted with military honors by the Bangladeshi contingent. He was subsequently briefed on the general security situation in the sector by the MONUSCO sector 2 Commander, Colonel Amadou Kane. He also met with MONUSCO's Head of Office in Kisangani with whom he exchanged views on various issues relating, among other things, to the current situation in the eastern part of the DRC.
