Head of MONUSCO on fight North of Goma: “We will not tolerate attacks against civilians”

Kinshasa, 22 August 2013 – On 21 August, fighting resumed between FARDC and M23 in the Kibati area, 15 km north of Goma. Populated areas and UN positions were directly targeted by mortars and hit by indiscriminate fire.

"I have ordered the MONUSCO Force to react and to take necessary action to protect civilians and prevent an advance by the M-23", said Martin Kobler, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of MONUSCO.
