MONUSCO in deep mourning

Kinshasa, 20 September 2010 - Ms Olamide Adedeji, Director of MONUSCO office in Ituri and Director a. i. Public Information division, died yesterday in Kinshasa. Mrs Adedeji was 60 years old. She joined the Mission in 2004 as Senior Special Adviser to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the DR Congo. Subsequently she served as Head of MONUC / MONUSCO Office in Matadi, Kampala, and Bunia in Ituri.

Following is the message of the SRSG Roger Meece to the staff of the Mission.

Dear colleagues,

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of regret that I inform you of the passing today, 19 September 2010, of Ms. Olamide Adedeji a dear friend and colleague.

As you know, Ms. Adedeji was the MONUSCO Head of Office in Bunia, Ituri. At the time of her death she was in Kinshasa where she was serving as Director a.i. of Public Information.

She is survived by her husband and two children and our thoughts and deepest condolences go to them and other members of her family.

She will be deeply missed by all. A memorial service for Ms. Adedeji will be organized in Kinshasa and in Bunia. More information on when and where this will be held will follow shortly.
