Bunia, 9 February 2011 – As part of its support to the prison system in the district of Ituri, the Correction Unit of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), recently offered 160 mattresses to the prisons in Mahagi and Aru.

The donation was informed by the degrading conditions under which the inmates were kept.

Whilst delivering the mattresses, MONUSCO-Ituri Office representatives reiterated the Mission's willingness to continue to assist prison system, in line with its mandate.
