Kalemie 18 April 2016 - The official handover of keys for the premises to host the community radio in Shamwana took place last 14 April. The project for the construction of this community radio was initiated by MONUSCO-Kalemie Public Information Section at a cost estimated at US $ 25,000.

The community radio room is equipped with a newsroom, an office and a studio.  It will be broadcasting on 94.8 frequency modulation within 50 Km-radius and will serve the villages formerly used by armed groups Mayi-Mayi Katakatanga as strongholds commonly referred to as “The triangle of death.”
Through this contribution meant to support the efforts for the stabilization and restoration of the State Authority, MONUSCO, through this Qips-funded project, would like to give the possibility to the populations to express themselves on topics regarding their environment and to have all the stakeholders involved to the best management of their district which depends much on the Manono territory.

Manono territorial Administrator, for his part  voiced his hope to see “the radio help Shamwana achieve its development and turn the page on the armed groups Mayi-Mayi Katakatanga that have been destroying and torching villages”. Welcoming the piece or work, the civil society said they were proud of the partnership MONUSCO/Population of Shamwana. They expressed the hope to see the community radio contribute to the creation of an alternative to the inter-communal confrontations through promoting dialogue and tolerance. 

The chief of MONUSCO office recalled that this project is one of the concrete achievements as part of the island of stability in Mpiana. It is meant to support activities likely to contribute to the consolidation of peace in areas that used to be in the grips of the armed groups.
