Celebration of the International Day of Peacekeepers in Kindu, Maniema province

Kindu, 29 May 2013 – In Kindu, the administrative capital of Maniema province in Eastern DRC, the UN peacekeepers' Day was commemorated with a relative splendor. Under the theme: "UN Peacekeeping Day: Adapting to New Challenges," three activities were organized to mark the Day.

In the main activity of the day, the Egyptian contingent of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO), the UN Police, the National Armed Forces (FARDC) and the Congolese National Police Force, paraded side by side in the streets of Kindu.

Another highlight was a conference-debate led by the Head of MONUSCO Office in the province on the Mission's mandate. A soccer game between the FARDC and MONUSCO was also organized later in the day.

Several political and administrative officials, members of the United Nations agencies, local and international NGOs attended the commemorative activities.
