Civil society in Bas-Congo seeking a facelift

Matadi, 14 November 2012 – A three-day workshop opened on 14 November 2012 in Matadi, Bas-Congo province, to address issues concerning civil society, such as capacity-building, restructuring of thematic groups and the holding of the Elective Assembly of members of the provincial coordination bureau.

In all, ninety delegates hailing from the ten territories of this province gathered in this seaport and provincial capital to attend the workshop, which was chaired by the interim provincial governor, Déo Nkusu, and the interim Coordinator of the United Nations Joint Office in Bas-Congo, Assiongbon Richard Tettekpoe.

This workshop was jointly funded by the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The training was delivered by experts from UNDP, MONUSCO Civil Affairs Office and the Congolese civil society, including a trainer from Sud-Kivu.
