Matadi: MONUSCO seeking ways for peaceful resolution to local conflicts

Matadi, 31 January 2012 – The work plan midterm review of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) Civil Affairs Office was conducted from 29 to 31 January 2012 at the Ledya hotel in Matadi, capital of Bas-Congo Province. According to the Chief Civil Affairs Richard Snellen, the objective of this three-day workshop was "to build the capacity of our teams to better work with our partners, including the local Government and the civil society, and also promote discussion among these two partners".

The workshop entailed hands-on exercises on local conflict resolution and the search of ways and means to instill improvement in this approach.

About 20 participants from the local offices of MONUSCO Civil Affairs Office coming from all the country's provinces, and two trainers from New York attended the workshop.
