Beni, 3 September 2012 – On 30 August 2012, disadvantaged children, mostly physically-impaired, orphaned and displaced, living in social welfare centers across Beni, one of the major towns in Nord Kivu province, received presents from the local Office the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). The gifts were essentially school supplies to assist these children as a new school year is just starting.

The ceremony initiated by the Child Protection Unit of MONUSCO took place in the presence of the Head of Office in Beni, as well as several political, administrative and military officials, including the town's mayor; the Head of the Gender, Family and Family Service; and the Commander of the Nepalese battalion of MONUSCO Force.
Taking advantage of this event, the Nepalese battalion fumigated the area, including rooms, in an attempt to sanitize the neighborhood, and help reduce the incidence of some diseases.

Another distribution of school kits was organized in the town of Butembo, some 44 km from Beni.
