MONUSCO equips Gangala - Nabodio district with Police sub-station

Dungu - May 2016: MONUSCO joint delegation including the chief of Dungu office and members of UNPOL; Civil Affairs; United Nations Joint Human Rights Office; Public Information; Disarmament, Repatriation, Reintegration and Resettlement Division as well as Dungu territorial officials, more particularly the chief of Wando sub-district and PNC officers visited Gangala-Nabodio district, situated 75 km from Eastern Dungu, to officially hand over the keys for the police sub-station, fruit of a quick impact projects (QIP), initiated by UNPOL in DUNGU. 

The construction of the jewel, worth US$ 30,000 was made possible by the commitment of the Haut Uélé Government officials who gracefully donated a 1,800 square meters space to build the PNC sub-station. In his welcoming remark, the representative of the Congolese National Police (PNC) in Dungu thanked MONUSCO and extended special gratitude to UNPOL for building the sub-commission whose role will be key in stabilizing and restoring the State authority.

The description of the building equipped with 4 offices with furniture, 4 dungeons and 2 outdoor toilets was done by the representative of the NGO “Développement et Gestion de l’Environnement au Congo (DGEC)”, Patrick Tasikiwe, the project manager.

In her statement, Ms. Alessandra Trabattoni, chief of MONUSCO/DUNGU office, thanked the NGO DGEC and congratulated the population and authorities on their support. Before handing over the keys of the new police sub-station to the administrator of Dungu Territory, she reiterated MONUSCO’s commitment to work alongside the PNC for a professional police and the restoration of the State authority in the best interest of the population. The Territorial Administrator said the building of the sub-commissioner stands as a proof of MONUSCO’s assistance to the population. He then conveyed the words of gratitude from the Population of Gangala-Nabodio to MONUSCO. He further urged the population to have confidence in the police, highlighting that the latter should make good use of the sub-station, in compliance with the law and human rights requirements.

In his presentation, the chief of the sector thanked the local authorities and urged the population to work hand in hand with the police for their safety as well as that of their properties. The ceremony wound up with the signing of the hand-over certificate, the ribbon-cutting and visit of the building. In the margin of the hand-over ceremony, UNPOL donated office stationeries to the commander of Gangala-Nabodio district.
