North Kivu: Congolese National Police Officials trained to secure the electoral process

Goma, 12 January 2011 – From 6 to 12 Jnauary, more than a hundred Congolese National Police (PNC) officers including three female from the Mobile Intervention Group (GMI: Groupement mobile d'intervention) received training from MONUSCO police on crowd control, restoration of public order, police code of ethics and human rights.

MONUSCO Electoral Division played an active role in this training which is particularly important given the fact that they will soon enter a period of intense electoral activities as next month will start review of the voters' list for the general elections scheduled to be held by the end of the year.

Capacity-building of Police is paramount to smooth and secure conduct of elections. The participants expressed their deep satisfaction at the end of training. For its part MONUSCO stands ready to extend similar training in other territories of North Kivu province.
