Women in Kananga commits to actively engage in political activities

Kananga, 2 Juil 2018 - The commitment was made through their Representative Régine Mbombo, coordinator of the Educated Women and Girls’ League for Development (LIFID), at the end of a two-day workshop organized by MONUSCO Political Affairs Division.

Altogether, 30 female and 8 male leaders attended the two-day workshop held on 26 - 27 June 2018 at MONUSCO facility in Kananga. Discussions revolved around the UNSC Resolution 2409 and the electoral timetable. In addition to the discussions, a play was performed by a local female NGO on women’s involvement in politics both as voters, decision-makers and candidates.

The chief of the provincial communication and sensitization office of CENI was invited to lead the questions’ and answers’ session that dealt with the democratic space, the electoral law, the electoral timetable, the reception of candidatures under way and the voting machines.

The session rouse considerable interest among participants. Daniela Tarizzo, MONUSCO political Affairs in Kananga said ‘’ this initiative is part of the sensitization campaign aimed to promoting better understanding and ownership of MONUSCO’s mandate and the UNSC Resolution 2409(2018); the opening of the political space and the inclusion of all the sections of the population to the political process in the province were also discussed. Similar workshops were previously held with political parties and youth organizations and other activities will be planned to involve traditional chiefs.’’
