Beni: MONUSCO finances the reconstruction of Eringeti hospital

Beni, on 28 January 2016 – MONUSCO Quick Impact Projects (Quips) delegation travelled to Eringeti hospital, in the territory of Beni, to assess the progress made on the reconstruction of the hospital and ensure that the population of Eringeti will soon be able to visit their hospital.

Eringeti health clinic, with 110-bed accommodation capacity, receives local civilian population, FARDC military personnel injured in the ongoing operations against ADF rebels. Regrettably, during the night of Sunday 29 November 2015, the health clinic and pharmaceutic warehouse went up in smoke. The act, attributed to the ADF rebels, also caused loss of life: 1 female nurse and 2 children, 5 nursemaids reported missing, 5 patients killed on hospital beds.

It should be recalled that the special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General in the DRC, Maman Sidikou visited this area on 5 December2015 to show solidarity and compassion with the population. He then pledged to rebuild the health clinic in a short time, which has materialized!
