Beni: MONUSCO launches construction a building to house several government departments in Oicha
The town of Oicha, administra8ve center of Beni territory in North Kivu, will soon have a building that will house several services aPached to the public administration. Construction work on the building was officially launched Tuesday, May 6, as part of a MONUSCO quick impact project, for a total amount of 47,860 US dollars.
The construction site is planned for a period of three months, using local labor. This building will house the Gender, Family and Child services, the Division of Social Affairs, as well as the Youth Coordina8on office of Beni territory. "This is a long-awaited project, a dream that is coming true today. It brings us joy and pride, because it will give us the ability to work in a good environment. It gives us courage and motivation to welcome visitors to our office under good conditions," exclaimed BernadePe Kahindo Mbamulyakoki, head of the Gender, Family and Child office.

From MONUSCO's perspective, the objective is to provide Beni and the surrounding areas with modern and equipped infrastructure, to allow women and young people, especially girls, to put into practice the contents of United Nations Security Council Resolu8on 1325 (Women, Peace and Security) and 2250 (Youth, Peace and Security).
Bernadette Kahindo Mbamulyakoki adds that this new building will address the problem of cramped current infrastructure that did not allow for good quality service to public service users. "We sincerely thank our partner MONUSCO who thought of us and especially for the promotion of women and their participation in good governance," she explains. This project also includes equipping the building, including a meeting room that can accommodate more than 30 people.
MONUSCO's quick impact projects play a major role in stabilizing the institutions of the Democratic Republic of Congo, through the construction or rehabilitation of destroyed or non-existent infrastructure for the proper functioning of the State, with the ultimate goal of protecting civilians. In the past, Oicha has benefited from other similar projects. In 2023, MONUSCO funded the construc8on of a new police station.
During the same year, an Oicha police training room was also inaugurated. Another MONUSCO project which the head of the police component at the time, General Mody Berethe, had emphasized the necessity to have a trained police force to meet the challenge of security of property and people in an area where the security situation is owen "concerning.".
