Bukavu: Conclusion of refresher course for National Police personnel on POMR and PIT

On Thursday 7 July 2016, the Cercle Sportif of Bukavu in the provincial capital of South Kivu hosted the closing ceremony for a refresher course during which some 60 members of Bukavu’s Mobile Intervention Group were retrained in Public Order Maintenance and Restoration (POMR) and Professional Intervention Techniques (PIT).

Initiated by United Nations Police (UNPOL) sector of Bukavu, the one-month-long training session was conducted by trainers from UNPOL and the Egyptian Formed Police Unit. It was delivered in the framework of the strengthening of the capacity of the Congolese National Police (PNC) regarding public order management and the provision of security for the electoral process.

Speaking on this occasion, Issaka DJIBO, Chief of UNPOL Bukavu sector, insisted on that aspect, while reaffirming the determination of the Police component of MONUSCO to continue, together with partners, to support all initiatives designed to help the PNC to become more professional.

The chief senior commissioner, MUGABO KANYA François, Deputy Provincial Commissioner in charge Administrative Police, representing the Provincial Commissioner of the PNC for South Kivu, thanked the Police component of MONUSCO for its initiative, which, he said, is an invaluable contribution towards improving public order maintenance and intervention. As part of that effort, he urged senior and low-level officers of the Mobile Intervention Group to apply the knowledge and techniques acquired through this course to better protect and secure the population and their property, in South Kivu province in general and in the town of Bukavu in particular.
