DRC: Call for Urgent Action to Prevent Sexual Violence Against Displaced Women in and around Camps
In a statement released on July 13, 24 United Nations entities that make up the United Nations Network against Sexual Violence in Conflict, led by the United Nations Special Representative Pramila Patten, joined the latter’s call in urging immediate action to protect women and girls and prevent the use of sexual violence in and around sites against internally displaced populations in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In the first quarter of 2023, nearly 7,000 women and girl survivors of rape were registered in the North Kivu province.
