MONUSCO Assists Child Inmates in Uvira, Sud-Kivu province

Uvira, 8 July 2011 – The United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) is seriously concerned by the living conditions of children detained for minor offences at the Central prison of Mulunge in Uvira, Sud Kivu province. MONUSCO's Child Protection Section provided several of these children with food and material assistance on 7 July to help alleviate their plight.

The goodwill gesture was witnessed by the Head of the juvenile court, Mr. Nicolas Ochudi Asanga, who is also chief of the follow-up committee for the Uvira juvenile court, and some 300 other detainees.
