MONUSCO celebrates Peace Day in Bas-Congo Province

Matadi, 21 September 2012 – On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, the Matadi Office (Bas-Congo Province) of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) carried out two days of intense activities, successively on 20 and 21 September 2012. The activities took place in the Tshela district, 210 km from the port city of Matadi.

The populations from the three territories of the Bas Fleuve district had been invited to attend two main activities, namely a sensitization day on MONUSCO mandate and the celebration of the International Day of Peace.

Following these two days, the District Commissioner of Bas Fleuve, Dieudonné Kulale Bubazo, expressed his appreciation to MONUSCO, which through this initiative managed to inform the populations on the implementation of its mandate in the country. Mr Bubazo said he hoped more activities of this kind would be carried out in other territories of the province.

The MONUSCO delegation was composed of several sections, including Public Information, Human rights, United Nations Police, Civil Affairs and Corrections.
These two days of activity brought together some 300 people, among whom members of the civil society, traditional chiefs, several administrative authorities, students and an important delegation of the Universal Peace Federation that came from the three territories and also from the cities of Boma and Matadi.
