MONUSCO on Awareness campaign in Nord Kivu province

Mtwanga, 17 September 2012 - Several sections of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) launched, 17 September 2012, in the northern part of Nord Kivu province, a large-scale public awareness campaign on the mandate of the Mission in the districts of Mtwanga, Bulongo, Lume and Kasindi-Lubirihya.

The backbone of MONUSCO mandate is Resolution 2053, which was adopted by the UN Security Council on 27 June 2012.

Several sections of MONUSCO took part in this campaign, including Public Information, Child Protection, and the Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation, Reinstallation and Reinsertion (DDRRR) program.

The most prominent themes addressed in this campaign were the Protection of Civilians, Security Sector Reform and Support to the DRC armed Forces (FARDC), Human Rights, and the Rights of Children.
