MONUSCO Police Boost their Capacity in Maintaining Public Order and Security

Kinshasa, 5 March 2011
– Several elements from three Formed Police Units (FPU) of the UN Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) underwent a practical training exercise in security enforcement and public order on March 5.

The training is part of a program to strengthen their ability to intervene in case of necessity, and to protect UN and humanitarian personnel and assets. Such a training is required by the rules of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations. It will help the three Units -- two from Bangladesh and one from India -- achieve perfect coordination and planning capacity to efficiently carry out evacuation plans in case of a crisis. As part of the exercise, the officers were also asked to inspect and familiarize themselves with all assembly and evacuation points in the Congolese capital.
