Second Implementation Workshop for Improving Security of Peacekeepers, Entebbe

Entebbe, Uganda, 15 Oct 2018 - From 12 to 14 October 2018, MONUSCO joined the Second Implementation Workshop for Improving Security of Peacekeepers at the Regional Service Centre in Entebbe. The activity was organized by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and Field Support (DPKO-DFS), bringing together the Headquarters Implementation Support Team and five high-risk Missions (MINUSCA, MINUSMA, MONUSCO, UNMISS and UNAMID) Implementation Teams.

MONUSCO delegation was composed by the DSRSG, David Gressly; Lt. Gen. Elias Rodrigues Martins Filho, Force Commander; Gen. Awale Abdounasir, Police Commissioner; and Mrs. Nancee Oku Bright, Mission Chief of Staff, among others. The delegation presented the best practices and challenges faced by the Mission on the implementation of the Santos Cruz Report and Action Plan, sharing with the attendants the MONUSCO’s achievements on drastically reducing fatalities of civilian and uniformed peacekeepers on the field.

The workshop was comprised by both plenary and breakout sessions where intensive group discussions were held on common matters of concern such as Planning, Integration and Coordination; Individual and Collective Security; Operational Readiness; Performance Management; and Leadership. At the end of the activities, the participants were assured that an important step was taken in the direction of developing durable solutions to issues affecting all Missions.
