MONUSCO explains its role to students in Mbandaka, Equateur province

Mbandaka, 9 June 2012
– « United Nations Peacekeepers : Myths and Realities » was the theme of a conference organized in Mbandaka, Equateur province, on Friday, 8 June 2012, by the Public Information Section of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO). About a hundred students and several teachers took part in this conference, which was held at the Institute of Rural Development in Mbandaka.

The aim of the meeting was to explain to the audience the mandate of MONUSCO as set out in Resolution 1991 of the United Nations Security Council, as well as clarify the boundaries of what the Mission can do.

These exchanges having proved informative, the conference organizers expressed their readiness to hold meetings of this type on a more frequent basis.
