MONUSCO builds clean drinking water fountain for the local population in Bunia

Bunia, 27 August 2013 – The United Nations Stabilization Mission in DR Congo (MONUSCO) officially handed on Monday 26 August 2013 to local authorities in Bunia, district of Ituri, a safe drinking water fountain built to facilitate access to clean drinking water in this district.

The fountain, built within the framework of MONUSCO quick impact projects, is located at Bankoko, one of the twelve districts of the city of Bunia.

The work was carried out by the Bangladeshi contingent of the United Nations Stabilization Mission, in partnership with local authorities and the population of Bankoko. The cost for the whole project is $ 17,635.

The water fountain will help the population in the district to have access to safe drinking water. Since the populations in other parts of Bunia are facing a similar problem, MONUSCO is planning to build more water fountains in other sites for a larger number of the population to have safe drinking water.

The ceremony was attended by MONUSCO chief of office and the Ituri Brigade commander who welcomed the collaboration between the UN Mission, the local authorities and the population which led to the current project.
