MONUSCO Informs Student Body of Gbadolite University on its Mandate

Gbadolite, 11 April 2011
– The United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) in Equateur province, through its Public Information Office, organized a meeting with about 200 students of Gbadolite University to explain and discuss Security Council Resolution 1925, which establishes the mission.

The aspects of the mandate which were brought to the fore included civilian protection, providing support to the national electoral process, MONUSCO's fight against sexual violence and illegal exploitation of natural resources, and the Mission's support to security sector reform.

The meeting was useful not only in clarifying MONUSCO's mandate, but it also helped correct misinformation, notably the preconceived idea that the Mission's budget, including staff salaries was provided by the DRC Government.
