MONUSCO builds a health clinic in Nyakeru, Province Orientale

Bunia, 7 September 2012 - The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) built a health clinic for the population of Nyakeru, a village located a dozen kilometers South of Bunia, the administrative center of the district. The official ceremony to hand over these new premises was on 5 September 2012.

The health clinic comprises a consultation unit, an observation unit, a pharmacy as well as sanitation facilities. The total cost of this quick impact project, completed under the supervision of the Bangladeshi contingent, was $19,542.

The new clinic replaces the former health center destroyed in a series of fighting in this region. The newly rehabilitated health clinic will provide quality medical services to a population estimated at 3,000 from Nyakeru and its surroundings. The commander of the Ituri Brigade, General Kumal Shabbir-Ul Karim, who presided over the ceremony, handed over the keys of the new center to the community leader.
