UN organizes capacity-building session for DRC Police Inspection Personnel in Kinshasa

MONUSCO Security Sector Reform section organized between 26 and 29 August, in Kinshasa, a 4-day operational capacity-building workshop for the Congolese National Police Inspection personnel. Twenty senior police members received basic courses on Excel and Power Point at Utex II compound.

The aim of the training was to explore the means and ways to improve the mechanism for civilians’ protection through the use of a better communication tool. MONUSCO, though this project, intends to help Police Inspection to make best use of the Call Center availed to them. Operational in Kinshasa since 2012, the call center helps the population denounce the abuses and exactions committed by the police personnel on duty. Through this free line, the population can report abuses, exactions and other harassments perpetrated by the police members.

If, for the population exposed to such abuses, the mechanism has been much successful in the provincial city of Kinshasa, there are still areas of improvements that would require a better commend of the IT tool by the police personnel. To fill this gap, General Jean De DieuEleko Police General Inspector appealed to MONUSCO for technical support.

This view is share by the learners that the Call Center will be more helpful with an effective use of the IT tool.
